SF State Distinguished Faculty Awards

The Academic Senate of San Francisco State University annually acknowledges outstanding faculty members for their extraordinary, meaningful and lasting contributions in the areas of teaching, professional achievement, and service. Honorees receive a $4,000 stipend (pre-tax) for the Excellence in Professional Achievement award and the Excellence in Service award and a $5,000 stipend (pre-tax) for the Sarlo Excellence in Teaching award, which is sponsored by the Sarlo Foundation. In addition, honorees receive a commemorative plaque and a certificate. The awards are designed to highlight the tremendous accomplishments of these individual faculty members and to showcase a few examples of the consistently exceptional work of the San Francisco State University faculty. The awards were first instituted in 2007. The initial awardees were:


Sarlo Award for Excellence in Teaching
Michelle Wolf, Professor of Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts
Excellence in Professional Achievement
Dennis Desjardin, Professor of Biology
Excellence in Service
Darlene Yee-Melichar, Professor of Gerontology

By recognizing the achievements of our distinguished faculty in the areas of professional achievement, service and teaching, we celebrate the climate of excellence that we create together.
